According to Argentinean paper Página 12, more than 1000 former soldiers for the national Chilean army, have been hired by a filial of the American company Blackwater based in Santiago, to work as nmercenaries in Iraq. Those Chileans constitute the second biggest contingent in Iraq, after the Americans.
In 2003, Chili refused to follow the US in Iraq.
